Healing systems by changing the beliefs that shape them

We believe systems can change — because we are the system,
and together, we can see, believe, and act differently.

We help people in the public sector heal the systems they’re part of by shifting the beliefs that shape how those systems work — so they can work in more human and effective ways

Welcome System Healers

You might recognise this…

I, like many of us who work to improve social outcomes, care deeply about the work we do.
We came into this to make a difference.

But it doesn’t always feel like we’re able to do your best work.

We see social problems getting worse, or not improving.
We see people not getting the help they need.
And we find ourselves working in ways that don’t sit right with our values

Over time, this feels frustrating, exhausting, disheartening.

And it can start to feel like this is just how things are.

What’s really going on

Most systems don’t struggle to achieve good outcomes because people don’t care, or don’t know what good looks like.

In fact, the people I work with can describe both the problems in the system and what a better system would look like.

The challenge is what sits underneath.

The beliefs we hold—about trust, risk, control, and whether there is enough— all shape how we behave.

And over time, those behaviours create the patterns we see and experience as “the system”.

If we don’t work at that level, we will keep recreating the same problems—no matter how much we redesign structures or processes.

What I do

I help people step back and make sense of what’s really shaping how their system behaves.

Together, we explore the beliefs, relationships and patterns underneath the work—and create the conditions for something different to emerge.

So people can work in ways that feel more human, more connected, and more effective in creating the outcomes we want.

What people get from this work

When this work lands, something shifts.

People move from feeling overwhelmed and frustrated…
to having clarity, direction, and a sense of possibility.

As one organisation described:

“We were doing lots of things but nothing was really changing… now we have clarity, direction, and a plan.”

From:

  • doing lots of things but not seeing change

  • reacting to pressures and immediate challenges

  • feeling unclear about their role and influence in the wider system

To:

  • understanding the problem they are really trying to solve

  • having a clear vision and plan

  • working in a more systemic, connected, and intentional way

What I do

What people say…

Barney Palfrey - Golborne Medical Centre

“Dulcie facilitated sessions for us and nine other partnerships. She took us by the hand to work out our direction together. She gave us some superb tools which I shall want to use in the future on other initiatives. These tools were accompanied by her unfussy and clear-sighted explanations and suggestions. I'm very impressed and I know I'm not alone this opinion”

Michaela Howell - former Director of Better Start Bradford

“Dulcie is not only able to engage very well with people at different levels and from different sectors, showing an understanding of their worlds, she can translate very complex theories into very simple language and diagrams. Dulcie’s diagrams have become legendary and we are forever grateful to her.”

About me

I’m Dulcie. I’m a doctor and Consultant in Public Health medicine. I have worked in a variety of positions throughout the public services system, directly with patients and clients, managing teams, commissioning and strategy.  I have been angry and frustrated at how the system conditions influenced what I could do.  I felt I was failing the people I was supposed to be helping and felt powerless to make change.

I have been lucky enough to be part of a team who focussed on system improvement. I saw it was possible and learnt what it took to change the system (at least part of it).  I saw how system improvement enabled so many people to do their best work and make a positive difference to the people they were helping.  It was this experience that inspired me to learn more and do more.

I know I can’t improve the system on my own.  We all need to work with others to make that happen.  That is why I want to share what I know with others who have the same a passion to make the world a better place so that together we can that shape the system that we need.
